For as long as I can remember I've wanted to be an entrepreneur.
And for almost as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to connect consumers to agriculture (you can read about my farm story here).
Enter – Prairie Raised Beef – my opportunity to have my own business, while also using the space to connect with consumers. It’s a win-win!
Now back to my entrepreneurial spirit – I’ve been dreaming of businesses for as long as I can remember. When were younger my cousins and I created an entire business plan about a fictional equestrian camp we were going to own when we grew up. In middle school, I baked cupcakes and sold them – I even got to make the cupcakes for one of my teacher’s gender reveals! And – in high school, I baked cookies and sold them. Although, now that I look back on it, it was really only boys who bought the cookies from me so maybe that had an ulterior motive
When I was in college (go badgers babyyy) I double majored in Animal Science and Life Sciences Communication, which let me take both business classes and agriculture related classes – another win-win. Letting myself dive deep into both these areas made me know it was possible to combine both the things and do what makes me happy.
While in college I also gained experience in agri-tourism and sharing agriculture stories and have always dreamed of created a business that allowed me to do all that. I’m incredibly fortunate that Avery + his family are supportive of entrepreneurial pursuits and have helped me to launch this business!
My hope/plan/goal / all the things are to use Prairie Raised Beef as an avenue to not only sell our locally raised beef but as a way to share agriculture stories, connect with consumers and build a community of people who love and support agriculture as much as I do. I want to welcome people into the agricultural community and provide a place for people to feel appreciated, have fun and learn lots.
Bringing it back to the origin of why I started writing this post – on Labor Day weekend we officially announced to our community that we are starting Prairie Raised Beef! Our community hosts an annual Cow Chip Festival (which is literally what it sounds like – the festival is all about a competition to see who can throw a cow chip the furthest). A ton of our community attends the event and watches the parade – so we decided to participate in it! We loaded up one of our hay wagons and pulled it with an old C tractor and handed out flyers and candy to our community.
